WA Reporting (Seasonal)
WA Semester Reporting Checklist
A practical WA reporting checklist for teachers: SCSA expectations, evidence, A–E grades, moderation and comment checks to finish each semester on time.
This page is a practical summary of publicly available guidance. Always follow your school's reporting template and professional judgement.
Quick compliance checklist
- Achievement is reported for each learning area taught, using the scale and format your school has adopted.
- Pre-primary to Year 2 reports use achievement descriptors; check your school’s template for where A–E grades start.
- Reports give accurate information about achievement and progress, with attitude, behaviour and effort reported separately.
- Students with an Individual Education Plan are reported against their personalised learning goals.
What a WA school report should include
- Achievement for each learning area taught, aligned to the Western Australian Curriculum achievement standards.
- Progress information, so families can see growth over time.
- Separate information about attitude, behaviour and effort.
- Relevant information for students with disability (Individual Education Plan goals) and EAL/D students (EAL/D Progress Map).
Confirm locally
- Your school or sector sets reporting dates and the exact template.
- Your reporting system (for example SEQTA or Connect) may have its own deadlines and character limits.
Before you start writing
- Gather evidence: work samples, assessment results, observations and moderation notes.
- Moderate grades with colleagues so judgements are consistent across classes.
- Check which learning areas are in familiarisation and which are in full implementation.
- Confirm students on an Individual Education Plan or EAL/D support and the goals to report against.
While writing comments
- Follow a four-part structure: achievement, evidence, skills developed, next step.
- Keep language plain English and match it to the grade or descriptor.
- Replace generic phrases with one concrete piece of evidence.
- Do not copy and paste identical comments across students.
Final checks
- Names, pronouns and year levels are correct.
- Spelling, punctuation and grammar are checked.
- Comments do not contradict the grade or each other.
- No comparisons to other students and no blame language.
- Report is saved or exported in the format your school requires.
